Male or Female kitten?
I am going to get a kitten & I already have a female cat of around 3 years of age.
Previously when I have got another kitten, I have always had females, thinking that the older cat would get on better with the female kitten, but they never did get on.
Would I be better off getting a male kitten that might get on better with my female cat?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

They never got on but eventually the older cat would tolerate him around as long as he didn't try to play with her. If he got too close she would tell him off but she never got really fierce, just made it clear that he should keep away!
I'm not sure females ever really accept other cats easily do they? Not in our house anyway!
Although I ended up with an old Male (we think he was gay!) and got two male kittens and they all adored each other. So now hoping to get another male or two!!!!
Good luck anyway... I think they way you handle the introductions can help hugely too!!!! So fuss over the old one loads and ignore kitten when she is around so she knows she is queen bee.

I have 2 female cats and a female kitten they get on really well and there was total acceptance straight away.
If anything my two older cats both want to play mum to newbie.
Sometimes I think it is the actual appeal of the kitten which makes you chose the sex - well actually I think the cats chose you.

Sometimes it works better if you get two young ones, then they can play with each other if your older girl isn't keen.
But it mostly depends on the older cat, has she always been an only (furry) child? Is she very nervous? or boisterous & playful?
Providing lots of extra 'facilities' also helps intros go well. more resting places, some high up. extra water bowls sited away from each other & ditto feeding stations & litter trays!
