Hi there. My two year old Weimaraner GSP cross boy has being diagnosed will allergy problems. The main symptom is inflamed ears which then become dirty and sticky. We are working with the vet who is excellent but the steroid tablets which helped at first have stopped being effective at a dose which is acceptable in terms of side effects for the dog. The next stage is to try a topical steroid spray which we will start on monday. We have cleaned up his diet which has helped a lot but not solved the problem. We have also tried
Canaural drops (the thick yellow ones)
Thornit powder
We currently use ear cleaning solution made from boracic and lactic acid to clean his ears (at vets suggestion) plus the steroid tabs and evening primrose oil capsules, again at vet's suggestion.
has anyone else had experience of this and can you make any suggestions please?
He has bare, not hairy ear canals and is as good as gold about the twice daily cleaning and treatment.
thanks

Oh dear. Poor Mr Neti. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery. Is it a quinzie or similar? It happened to my Dad.
They say it is an allergy but they do not know to what, it is a huge flappy fleshy horrible thing in the back of the throat and he felt he was chocking. he's on his third drip, I have come home, will collect him when they release him. They won't let him home until the lump has gone! He's chipper enough but hurts to talk!

oh poor fella, what was he doing yesterday and last night? it sounds like a fairly acute reaction.
Morning all...oh dear neti, I'm so sorry Mr N's had a trauma, what a worry. I hope he feels better very soon.

Cetti replied, sends her love and says she may pop in occasionally for a fleeting visit.

A very grey, drizzly day here.
yes, drizzling here, the drought is over, can we call off the hosepipe ban now?

neti, can you or he make up a list of what he's been eating? Obviously it would be a shame if it turned out to be your paellas.
Morning all
Sorry to hear Mr N is unwell Neti .Thinking of you both
Hope he will soon feel better xx

Grey and drizzly here too.
Thanks all, but don't waste your sympathies on Mr N, he is now playing golf!! I ask you. We had a curry (or several different ones last night) but we've been eating them for yonks so no idea. The edema is still there but will give him a bland soft dinner and sit him upright to sleep.

I hope Cetti does pop in, she's nice, like we are!!!!

Well I will use my sympathy for you, you must have been terrified!
Lovely sunny day here, tortoise is outside sunning herself for the first time this year.
That's good news Neti.Though I expect it was worrying for you at the time .
Well it brightened up so put washing out ,now it's gone all dull again .Tut.
Well, it has made us rethink our marriage, was getting stale, so maybe something good will come out of it now, at least we know we still care for each other!
Of course you care for him neti...we all care about him, he's practically a biddy :o)
So happy for you Neti now the worrying is over. The sun has been out for a while now and I've managed to get my towel washing dry. I'm now getting ready to listen to Derby playing Birmingham in Birmingham.
Have a good afternoon. Laters 'gaters!
I have to admit biddies, that I was on the point of doing something dreadful to the marriage, but whether I would actually have gone ahead I don't know. Don't think bad of me.
.... shall I leave now? :0(
Why would we think dreadful of you. You are being honest and I have been in the position on many occasions, but there is a strong bond between us that noone can break, and besides I still fancy him!! ;o). I must admit the heart attack trauma brought us closer together. Made us both realise what we had got. I don't believe people who say they have been married for x years with never a cross word!!! No intelligent person with a mind of their own could say that.

And ha, ha, playing golf after all he put you through!!!! Glad all is OK now.
Why would you leave, silly billy!!!! x
Question Author
No you shall not leave now or at any other time. We all have our difficult bits and I am a great believer in the old saw about walking a mile in someone else's shoes.
Go and have a mojito and calm down. (hug)
I must say I would have been inclined to wrap a golf club round his neck and ask him how he was swallowing now!
LOL jno!!!

Forget the soft food and sitting upright Neti!!!!
Thanks biddies, what I was thinking of doing went against all my morals and beliefs, and I am so glad that I have seen the light before I did anything stupid. He isn't an easy man to live with, although he is much better lately!

Had to laugh at jno's comment, but he does still have the edema and it is really 'orrible, he had anti biotics to take until Tues and then back to medico. I have to admit that I was so scared it was c, as there is so much in my family right now, when I went into the bed area where he was (they called me in which frightened me somewhat) I burst into tears, and I realised what he meant to me. Tomorrow I'll probably be killing him!!!
