Anal gland problem - dog

My king charles cavalier, Bailey, has recently had an anal gland infection. He was prescribed amoxylin but was left with a yellow mucus discharge which was so sticky it made his bum fur rock hard. We took him straight back to the vet who prescribed a 2 week course of cynicin. (another antibiotic).. This made no difference and he still had the yellow discharge. SO, another week's course of cynacin later and he still has it, only now it's going from yellow to greeny coloured, (not nice I know). He has an appointment tonight at the vet, but we'll probably be told it's an infection again, even after 3 courses of antibiotics, soon to be 4 no doubt. Has anyone else seen this problem? It's not like the ususal smelly stuff that comes out of the glands, it doesn't smell atall. (sorry, bit of a yukky subject)..

Hi. I'm lucky that none of my dogs have ever really suffered from this problem [I feed raw bones which helps to harden the poop, thus emptying the sacs regularly]. Could you not ask the vet about having the anal gland removed if it is an ongoing problem? Only problem is, I suppose, is that the infection would need to be cleared before any surgery could take place!

Never had this problem with my dogs.......and I dont feed raw. I have heard that bran flakes mixed in with the food helps sort out blocked anal glands, but dont know about the infection he has.
