Puppy training
28 Answers
Hi All,
I got a gorgeous labrador puppy at the weekend, she was dead quiet when she first came home but has now turned into a hyper active puppy :D
Just wondering if anyone has any tips on training her out of biting while playing or to stop her grabbing hold of trousers and tugging!!!
She seems to like biting arms and hands especially when playing. I've tried yelping like it hurts but this doesn't phase her in the slightest and I have tried saying no sternly and giving her one of her toys to bite and chew on instead (this works sometimes).
As for trouser biting and tugging - nothing works! She just tugs and tugs and tugs lol!
She's great fun and I know as a puppy she'll learn, just looking for tips please. Already have her toilet trained in 5 days and she knows how to sit and give her paw :)
TIA

Jet is my black lab, I have two yellow ones as well, Whenever one of the pups did something 'naughty' like biting, gently moving them away with a firm 'no' perhaps as she knows the sit command, you can move her, then say 'no, now sit' then praise her when she stays sitting - they soon grow out of it - they're like toddlers, into everything and wanting to play - and your pup - aww, she's adorable!!
Sorry, had to go earlier...someone was trying to chew the laptop lol!
I think we've a great future ahead of us sprinter, its going to be fab full of play and walks! :)
I'll add a few more photos (hopefully today) and will keep you updated with her progress with more photos etc in the future.
Thanks merciasounds, I will try that out. I'm sure she will grow out of it, I might bubblewrap my arms up in the meantime lol

I was very lucky that my lab wasn't a biter but they are generally known to have crocodile teeth. Have you had a look at Labrador Forum. There are loads of posts from really experienced owners which will give you lots of ideas. You don't have to join, you can browse as much as you like and have 5 free posts. It's only £10 a year to join if you decide you want to. I've found it invaluable since having Lottie and everyone on there adores labradors!!
