When I used to go to Hackney BAGS, (before it went all posh and closed down), I would always put a reverse forecast on the first two dogs that had a p1ss on the parade lap.

Did I win? Sometimes, but it was no worse than any other system.

Look at their eyes and bet on the one that winks at you.
(I just made that up)

Don't bet on the one thats limping !

UP TO 12,000 greyhounds are killed or abandoned every year at the end of their racing lives, a study has found.

Abandonment & slaughter were so common that greyhounds fate was a major animal welfare problem, the report said.
Researchers said that between 8,000 and 12,000 greyhounds were slaughtered or abandoned annually, of which only an estimated 2,800 were rescued.

The cost to the taxpayer was estimated at 600,000 annually.

Up to 30,000 greyhounds cease racing each year and animal rights activists have long believed that many are killed or abandoned. The study concludes: Large numbers of greyhounds and lurchers are abandoned once they are no longer useful. The study shows that the argument that most are kept as pets by their owners cannot be sustained.

The most common methods of killing unwanted dogs were to shoot them or beat them to death. Some corpses had their ears cut off to prevent identification.

Emma Johns, of the British Greyhound Racing Board, an umbrella group for registered tracks, said that the organisation was in contact with animal welfare groups to help to protect dogs, notably the Greyhound Trust, which rehomes retired animals.

Nobody would say there cant be improvements, but we have already made many.

Researchers estimated the number of greyhounds abandoned and killed after conducting a survey of local authorities to establish the number impounded after being found abandoned.

Solar junkie, I was going to post the same thing
solarjunkie, I don't condone any cruelty to animals, infact I posted the 'Puppy for the Family' question with every intention of actully helping an animal from suffering that kind of fate. 'Abandonment and slaughter' of greyhounds and lurchers makes me see red and feel sick to the stomach that people could be so cruel. But i think wayneo was merely asking a perfectly innocent question as somebody that is interested in dog racing. By the way I am truly shocked at the worrying statistics that you stated in your answer, what a sick way to treat unwanted animals, I really hope and pray that this sort of cruelty ceases and that the people involved in this are brought to justice !
yes he was and I am sure that no offence to wayneo was intended but the fact is that people DON'T KNOW about the price paid by the greyhounds and if wayneo or anyone else is thinking of going to a dog track, they need to understand this
