My dog has had diorhhrea on and off for about 10 days. He's also been scratching his hind quarters to the extent that there is a bald patch approx 2 inches which sometimes bleeds. He also has a funny smell coming from his ears that comes and go,s. I,ll be taking him to the vet first thing in the morning. Ive been googling and am wondering if it could be mange but dont understand how he might have caught it. He is like our baby and very well looked after!

thanks anne. Didnt realise the people on here were more qualified than my vet. I'll think twice about asking for advice on here. As a student nurse living on a bursary £90 is the difference between feeding my children for the next week or not, so thanks for the insensitive comment, hope you sleep at night!
I thought the post two weeks ago was about a dog, i didnt see any mention of a guinea pig.
No one said anyone on here was more qualified than your vet, who you say is not overly concerned and to give him a bath in salt water, surely that is for the skin problem, it isnt going to resolve his diahroah?

If a dog has diarrhoea the first thing to do is to starve it completely for 24 hours - then begin feeding with a very small amount of plain boiled rice - if this is tolerated okay repeat a few hours later then begin to add a small amount of boiled white fish (obviously watch for bones) - make sure water is available at all times and don't give in to pleading 'I'm starving eyes' - trust me he won't die by being deprived of food for 24 hours. hope he gets better and let us know
update!
Took him to emergency vet! (£100.72) The bald patch that he.s had was because of his Anal glads, Very upsetting watching him have his anal glands emptied.....he didn't half yelp. He has had an injection containing anti-inflammatory and antibiotic and canural ear drops. Still no concern from vet regarding the occasional diarrhea though!
