whats the point of them? what do they do? they just slither around and eat the plants.... do they do anything useful in return? Ive just been outside after it peed it down and there was dozens of em.... but more importantly, why can they sleep for years on end and we can't?
Does there need to be "a point" what is the point of humans, we are totally wrecking the world we live in, I think the snails are far more entitled to the world than we are.
Like most animals, snail were on earth many millions of years before we humans came along. There were far less in numbers until we started planted foreign plants and were an ideal intermediate media for intestinal worm eggs to spread.
Before you say it..... intestinal worms are an important evolutionary animal that burdens the slower and weak herbivores so they can be disposed of by predators thus ensuring the strongest ones to survive to breed on.
lol ratter.....in my imagination it wiggled its thingys (sorry cant remember word im only getting antlers) while it said it....
the ones in my garden had really long ones wiggling all over.... ive never really examined a snail before but after watching for a couple of minutes i can see the reason kids are fascinated with them lol
I am amazed how they get into Hanging Baskets and under the Wheel Arches of my car; also under the lid of the gas BBQ.
They do taste nice with garlic butter but I don't think the ones in my garden are the edible kind. If they were I think I might serve them fully BBQ'd.
I dislike snails because of the damage which they do to my plants. However, I do get great enjoyment from seeing a Thrush hammering one to bits on a piece of rock in the garden and then having a juicy meal....Perhaps that is what they are for...To help feed the the birds, which I feel sure we all love.
Those thingies are its eyes on stalks! They are good for food - for us and for hedgehogs and for birds, and for next door's puppy.... the Romans brought huge food snails with them, you can still find them on the North downs.
