Red Kite in the garden

I have found a Red Kite in the garden, apart from being caked in mud I can't see anything wrong with it. It seems dehydrated and can't be bothered to move except to flap its wings briefly when the dog got too close. I have given it some water through a syringe, washed his wings down with a hose and dried him with a towel. Now he is in a barn in a box of hay. Is there anything else anyone can think of that might help him survive?

you seem to have done all the right things but suggest you try and contact your nearest wild life centre for professional advice. We have red kites flying over our house every day. Beautiful creatures. Hope you have saved one. Could put a little bit of raw meat or chicken near to him. See if he eats it.

Thank you Pat, I'll have a look in the fridge :-)
Fantastic bird. I think its best chance of survival is to get it to a wildlife centre and let the experts look after it and it should be done as soon as possible. In my opinion you have done the right things so far. Good for you for helping it they really are so special.
hair dry its feathers & call local bird sanctuary. If its a young bird/fledgling keep it warm under a bulb or in airing cupboard.

I left it for an hour and went back for a look expecting to find a dead bird, very surprised to find him perched on the side of the box looking somewhat bewildered but very much alive. Thanks everyone. Not sure I want to get too close now though!!
Well done you, they are lovely birds
They are lovely birds, Poor thing may have worn its self out if it needed hosing to get the mud off its wings, Mud is very heavy, and it may have been bullied by other birds, If it looks well let it recouperate for another hour and if it looks like it has more strength, Let it go, Try to get some professional advice also, This is Tiggywinkles is telephone number they are open 24 hours a day, they will help you 01844 292292
