I've just spotted a bird that's new to my garden. He has a black head, grey back and pink underside. Very beautiful but his "wife's" a lot duller. Any ideas so I could look it up?

Could it be a bullfinch
Nuthatch ?
Yes bullfinch
I don't know but this cold weather seems to be drawing more birds to the garden. For the first time there are crested tits in mine.

Thank you both. Have had a look at my trusty book and it's definitely a bullfinch. Now that's a first for my garden. Looks like they are collecting leaves, would they nest as early as this?
The birds do seem to be thinking about nesting earlier and earlier these days.
What a lovely little bird, I'd love to see one of them.
could well be making a trial nest especially if it is a young bird

This is wonderful, they're both hopping about on my neighbour's patio and I'm sitting typing and watching.
