My cat hunts and eats lizzards. The trouble is she only ever eats the back half - not just the tail but legs an' all. Nearly everyday I find half a lizzard crawling around the patio.  I was shocked and horrified when I realised that the last one was still alive.  What can I do for the poor thing?  My hubby says that as they are cold-bloodied they don't feel pain - is this true?  I can't bash it on the head but need to know if they are suffering.  The back legs etc will not grow back like the tail would.

My tortoise is cold-blooded and does feel pain.  (She can't make a noise but you cna tell from eyes, mouth and head movements that she's not happy)  Cold-bloodedness just means they need the sun for energy (as well as food and water).  Bashing it on the head may be the kindest thing - but I couldn't do it either.  Good luck!
It's having a nervous system that determines whether or not something can feel pain. Not whether it is warm or cold blooded. So yes, they are suffering. Honestly in this case the kindest thing you can do is put it out of its misery. I know this isn't the answer you want to hear...
When I was in mid stream in a loo in Cyprus, a giant pink lizard shot across the side of the wall. I screamed & ran out with my nickers round my knees! A chef came running in with his Pizza shovel & chopped it in half! I felt so guilty & sincerely hope it didn't feel any pain.
That must have been quite a sight smudge, I hope the chef didnt add the fated lizard to one of his weekend specials!!!

LOL ck1 - Well at least they were lacey knickers - not knee length bloomers! Poor lizard!

Sorry netibiza!

well smudge I'm sure you made the lizard's final moments memorable... As long as the chef killed it quickly it wouldn't have had time to feel much pain, if any. It's the crawling about the patio slowly dying that is likely to be painful - sorry netibiza.

As a side note all the people on this thread seem to be those in whose views I am interested - having enjoyed hearing what you have to say on other issues. I would be interested in your views on a question I have posted in AB Suggestions if you have the time...

dear smudge - this bit about not bloomers and then sorry netibiza - is this a reference to my granny knickers and if so how do you know??? lol

Cos it was smudge who was telling the story about herself! Bloomers are long shorts by the way - not just period pants.

Lillabet - will look! :-)

LOL - Thanks for brightening up another cloudy day.

It's no good we'll have to move to Spain!

Thinking about it - I hope the chef cleaned his pizza shovel afterwards - uurrgg!

smudge at first reading I though you were paddling in a stream - imagine what shot through my brain - doh!!
Yes neti, you can just imagine the scenario - it's a good job I didn't have the runs!
