He seems to run out barking as fast as his legs can carry him anytime someone walks by the lane at our house which is pretty busy! Even sometimes he thinks theres someone there and there isnt! He cant see because its a high wall.....
Its pretty annoying and were scared someone will chuck something over the fence or something!!!!!
Cant keep door shut all the time .....
Any ideas xx

As a pup Max used to bark at everybody, he eventually developed two types of bark a sort of woof woof to the neighbours to let them know he was there and rather menacing "I don't know who you are but I'm watching you" bark for strangers. Everybody recognised the different barks and John the last guy to move onto the street often said he knew they'd been accepted on the street when Max stopped "barking" and began "woofing"
Er...my wolfhound dogs are barking nowadays. I wonder if their being separated from the bitches, which are in season now, has anything to do with it?LOL. Generally they don't bark at anything.
And the wolfhounds enjoy a collective howl of an evening, which sets all the others off. Hardly melodious!
Lankeela's answer is good. Point out that the neighbours' houses won't get burgled, because burglars don't like houses where there is a dog which will make a noise and attract attention. Doesn't matter if it's the next door neighbour's dog;the burglar is worried that the neighbour will come out to look for what's causing the disturbance.

Fred, you have Wolfhounds? I admit ours can get a little vocal when separated from our bitch when she is in season and yes we get a howling session in the night as well but other wise nothing.
Our Bitch Keeva will usually sound like she is dissecting the others with her playful snarling and growling when she hears me rise in the morning but this is just her playful nature, not a bad bone in her body lol.

As a non-dog owner it is bloody irritating when someones dog is barking non stop.
Got home from work yesterday and the neighbours were in their garden. It was bad enough that they were listening to what sounded like Italy's Cliff Richard at 900 decibels and singing along with it - very badly but there dog was yapping non stop for about two hours. What annoyed me more was that I didn't once hear them try and stop it barking.
If I didn't need a favour off them this week I would have said something.
