Ooh lucky you. Males or females, names etc? Now what are you planning for them for the summer and what are they doing at the moment?.

ladybirder have Walter, male horsefield named after Sir Walter Raleigh as he is a great explorer and rampages around my ground floor in a quite piratanical manner - then there is Elizabeth, a female herman who repels his advances cos they are different species (but it didn't seem to bother our ancestors did it?) however, she occasionally allows him access (which is nice, cos, come on, rampant sex on my kitchen floor when I'm trying to have breakfast has to put me off my breakfast which I'm conviced is what they are out to do.) Then there are (staying with the royal theme) Anne and Charles, two young marginated tortoises.
I've just looked them all up rsvp as I don't know much about tortoises. The horsefield has such fabulous markings but the Hermann is even more spectacular. So beautiful. So I see Walter is an indoor tortoise, are the others as well? It would make life easier for you if they all need the same care. Love the names, collectively known as The Royals. Do you have experience of keeping them? Sorry for all the questions but so interesting.

Took them to a tortoise clinic yesterday to have them identified, sexed and weighed - they all seem well and healthy but I was advised not to hibernate them this year as we need to know they are putting on weight before we do that. Hence my winter project of building an superb outside run for them for next Spring. We have a huge very well built chicken run with only four chickens in so I'm going to landscape it to resemble the tortis natural environment - lots of hills, rocks, stoney bits and have a list of plants I can put in for them.
Luck you rsvp. i have a wooden tortoise that we bought yrs ago in Cornwall.
it looks so life like and I'm really jealous that you have a real one!!!!
Their gorgeous creatures x

I'm really enjoying having them around - Walter is so friendly, what ever you're doing he marches over to have a look and offer helpful advice. Tortoises are nice little creatures, I really like them
