speyed bitch still gets the cold nose from the boys !

my female dog was speyed some years back but at about this time of year when her season would come in she has to fight off the boys with a stick(well an unladylike snarl anyway!)

is this normal ? i thought the op would end that kind of thing ?

Hi,
When you dog was speyed do you know whether the ovaries were left in or taken out?
To be "speyed" actually means to have a hysterectomy (leaving the ovaries in just removing uterus) and not an ovario-hysterectomy (removing ovaries and uterus). However most vets will actually remove the ovaries as well while still calling it a spey.
If the ovaries are still in then she will still be producing the hormones that she used to, male dogs will pick up on this and sniff around. Nothing to worry about.
