With all the news recently about foxes coming into peoples houses, and only yesterday a few miles from me a fox attacked a 4 week old baby in their house and bit the baby's finger off - well my son just asked me if a fox could get through our cat flap? I said no, but could it??

There seem to a number of discrepencies with the fox/baby incident.

There usually is, it usually turns out to be a load of nonsense.

"She was fighting with it, trying to pull it away from the baby. She said it lasted a couple of minutes and she had to wrestle the fox off the baby."

Ive been around and worked around foxes for much of my life and I almost laughed when I read the above comment from the article, I would say the only circumstances where that would happen would be if the fox had rabies! I really think that something else caused that injury, it was either domestic dog or human, certainly not fox!!

More than likely

A friend bought this product as unwanted neighbourhood cats were getting into his kitchen! But it would be effective if you have genuine fox concerns

Yep good point jd.

Re the fox/baby incident. I find it odd that the fox pulled the baby out of a cot? if it was a moses basket then maybe, but a cot - the fox would have had to jump up into it and lift the baby out onto the floor.
has it been established how the fox got into the house ?. I can't imagine anyone leaving doors or windows open in the depths of winter, especially with a four week old baby in the house!
Oh my goodness. We have a dog flap, which we leave open overnight to allow our elderly collie access to his toilet facilities. This possibility had not even occured to me. I might let my relatives with cats and babies know as well...
Anngel, dont panic, "if" the fox was the culprit and I very doubt it was, and certainly not the way it was described anyway!

It would be such a remote possibility of it happening again it really is not worth even considering, you have more of a chance of concord crashing on your house to be honest!!
A pest control man on tv said it was unlikely the fox deliberately 'attacked' the baby - more likely it was attracted to the smell of a sh*tty nappy and would have been trying to eat the contents.
I don't understand why anyone is doubting the mother's version of what happened..............
Craft, I know the behaviour of a fox, there is no way on this earth that a fox will continue to hold on to a child while being fought, A fox will run away from any encounter with a human that is so close, I doubt it was a fox to start with but then to say she had to fight the fox off, that is total nonsense! If she said that she screamed or shouted and the fox ran off then it would have been a "little" more believable.
What do you think it was, craft?

It has come to light that the baby was on the sofa when he was attacked.

When any child attends hospital with any sort of injury there is an investigation. The police and their forensic investigators attended the home. If there is any attempt at a cover up they will know.

If there was a dog in the house the police and neighbours would have told the media.

It has been proven that the twins attacked 2 years ago were the victims of a fox attack.
Apologies to craft, my question was directed to ratter.
hc4361, I dont care what was proven 2 years ago, im stating that no fox is going to play tug of war with any human over a baby!!!
I can forgive a bit of exaggeration in these circumstances, can't you?

The baby has nasty puncture wounds both sides of his face and lost a finger. The mother is bound to have been a bit hysterical.

Yes I can but she is telling blatant lies, how many more lies is she telling, we will probably never know, im sorry but it sounds like a cover up story to me.

It's a horrible that something happened to this poor baby and it has sustained terrible injuries but I can't help thinking somethings not right. Firstly the baby was in it's room in a cot, now apparently in the living room on the sofa. It's arm was down the foxes throat or it's hand was in it's mouth and then there was this tug of war. Maybe it was a fox but the way in which it supposedly happened seems a bit iffy.
