Morning all

My son wants "a pet" for his birthday.

No dogs, or cats, or anything that stinks.

What does your son want?

Is he old enough to look after the animal that he wants?

What about a worm farm?
Question Author
EB, yeah that's what I thought. They also bite don't they. One bite and that would be it. Kevin wouldn't want to go near it again!

Dave, good thinking! What has a short life span?

Maggie, yep, I realise this... hence me being SO particular with what I get! Lol

Hoppy, ahhhh :)) You can sleep on the end of my bed if you want, and when it's REALLY cold, I'll even let you come under the blanket.

Question Author
Ecclescake, obviously if I got a tortoise I wouldn't keep it in his bedroom.

A worm farm? What on earth is that?
It's REALLY cold, MM.
You can buy worm farm kits.

Did you ever get that bird you were after? The one in the pretty cage?
"Whatever I get will be going in his room."......... "Ecclescake, obviously if I got a tortoise I wouldn't keep it in his bedroom."

My mistake.....obviously.
Question Author
Lol Hop. It is, I'll give you that ;)

Ummmm, I have a budgie. It's not in a pretty cage though. It's in a bog standard bird cage. I don't think you can get 'pretty' bird cages, can you?
Put rodents back on the possibilities list... Then get him 2 rats, they are friendly, fun, happy to romp around a bedroom then go back to their cage, they can be trained (sort of), they enjoy a cuddle and aren't really know for nipping. Lots of fun and they will live approx 3 years.
I vote RAT
A tank of stick insects.......non smelly...very quiet and if you tell your son that they will eventually turn into mini dinosaurs he will be thrilled. x
I don't think your ready for a pet - sorry
Question Author
Is there any chance of worms escaping from these farms? Are they like actual farms? Hang on, I need to have a look at these...

Ecclescakes, don't worry. We all make mistakes. Tortoises live in the garden.

a furby....
Question Author
Rats? Seriously?

Are you sure they don't bite?

//Tortoises live in the garden//

No they don't they should have atank with a heat lamp and special flooring.
They should then be taken out indoors and out to stretch their legs - believe it or not they have great little personalities.
Question Author
Lol gness, he will be sat looking at the tank every day. Just waiting!
Question Author
FGT, my grandparents used to live in the garden. I had absolutely no idea they required a blimmin tank and heat lamp! Right. Forget Tortoises.
My dads tortoise lives in the house. They hibernate so not an ideal pet for kids.

You know they do pretty cages. You asked about them before in one of your other user names.
Exactly MadMen......my son was 22 before the light dawned. I had very peaceful teenage years while he sat waiting.
Question Author
Maybe they can live indoors AND outdoors then. My grandparents definitely lived in the garden. There's no way they would have had it in the house.
