Please join in the big butterfly count, so that we can find out what is happening to our insect world with this topsy turvy weather. Thankyou.

I saw one cabbage white today, that's all. I will join in though. Thank you.
I tried this last year, an I must admit I had great difficulty telling weather I'd seen four butterflies or one four times.
Still, I'll try again though.
Saw quite a few today actually.
Frank, If you are doing your count in a fixed place (eg garden) than you are aked to count the max number (of the same species) seen at the same time. Ten individual sightings just count as one.
If you are counting on a country walk, then everything is counted because most butterflies patrol a fixed area and as you are moving from area to area. Ten individual sightings in that instance would count as 10.

Very unusually, today I saw a meadow brown on the lawn in my town garden (Fife). Out in the countryside there are masses of butterflies right now so counts should be much higher this year.

The only problem I have is with distinguishing between small and large whites.
Ah, I didn't realise that, thanks.
