Pending our rapidly approaching holiday, I've called a local pet sitting agency. She will charge £8 per visit to look after 4 cats and 3 chickens. I think that's a bargain and would have her 2x a day. Mr BM thinks that is very expensive and is suggesting we either put the cats in the cattery and send the chooks to my dads (not keen on that, due to the fact that they have LOTS of foxes and it will really unsettle the girls) OR we get his mate to look after them (not keen on that the bugger will forget once he gets on the golf course). I don't want to impose on our neighbour for 10 days.
Someone give me some arguments to throw at him (apart from the fact that I am paying for it, and I want the peace of mind).
The cats and chooks will be happier in your own house, the house will be at risk but with someone coming in and out of the house means that it is safer.
Also, it is cheaper than the cattery, I pay £10 a day when I know that cattery is £25 a day!
I think I might just have to put my foot down. I WANT to feel happy that my animals are happy and well looked after whilst i am away. If someone does it professionally I feel they will be extra specially careful, whereas if you ask a mate to do it, whilst they might be good, they might be ever so slightly slap dash.
SHe's only looked after chickens twice, but i said if she comes here for an hour, I'll teach her how to handle the girls and how to deal with them - not that she should really need to.
lol Alice. The baby birds have gone. Well not completely, they are still about, but they have grown tail feathers and can fly now. Cats 1 Blackbirds 11.
As for Hedgies, I think they are fine. They like their cat food (but if I book Cat lady, she will be instructed to leave water and cat food next to the polytunnel). Granny Hedgie really needs a holiday now though...........
I think that's a great price. Just tell Mr BM that you won't feel happy with any of the other options and if you're not happy you'll only stress... If you're stressed and worried on your holidays you won't feel up to erm.... performing your ermmm .... conjugal thingies ;0)
It's a really good price BM, and from personal experience, your beasties may pine for you in kennels. It's much better to leave them in their own home where the places smells of you and the Roggs, and they can go out for walks when they feel like it. I'll never use a cattery again.
