A Bay is rather bigger :

"A broad, large indentation in a coastline"

A Cove is rather smaller :

"A sheltered recess in a coast; a small bay, creek, or inlet where boats may shelter"

Whilst on the subject, here's one for pub quizzes that even experienced sailors aren't aware of...What's the difference between a bay and a bight? (e.g. the Great Australian Bight). Answer: A bight is a broad, large indentation in a coastline, (same as a bay, so far), but... one that a sailing vessel may leave, no matter what the direction of the wind.
