Have to let you nature lovers know that my white buddleia is now finally out in full bloom (really late this year) and I have never seen so many butterflies and bees and moths on it all day and evening. Wonderful. Today it was covered in Peacocks, Red Admirals, Tortoiseshells, Cabbage Whites, 1 Comma and a couple of Painted Ladies. Good to see the wet Spring hasn't knocked them back at all.
we have three buddleas, all blue, and never seen so many white butterflies, but we have quite a few peackock butterflies, but only a small amount compared to last year when there were thousands, hardly a space on the bush..
You're so lucky Prudie. My buddleia was uprooted in the storms last year and I haven't replaced it yet. Only a few cabbage whites around but lavender was covered with bees today.
We had a Comma this year, the first I've ever seen here. We always get Peacocks, Red Admirals, Small Tortoiseshells, Large White and Small White in abundance due to our 4 very large buddleia.
Snap Ferlew. My white buddleia is yet to open but my red and blue ones have been in full bloom for a few weeks now. When the sun comes out there are usually in excess of twenty small tortoiseshells on each, plus heaps of bees.
My Buddleia blooms are now past their peak and I'm dead heading daily to try to extend the flowering period.
Plenty of butterflies still visiting but not a wide range of different species.
I have never seen so many butterflies as this year.
Even in my my childhood memories during the last war. when we encouraged to destroy white butterflies because their caterpillars were eating valuable green crops, but they were never so numerous as they are this year.
I seem to have spent the last few days looking up butterflies as there has been so many different ones in the garden.
There has been an amazing variety......such a shame I'm a little bit scared of the beautiful creatures (that can't fly in a straight line and insist on landing on me :-( )
My garden is teeming with insects..butterflies bees wasps hover flies daddy long legs etc...I have lilac, buddleas in all colours, micklemass, cottoneaster, asters, plus loads in pots, also zillions of birds here !
