Big Chubby Solitary Magpie In My Garden
7 Answers
Single Magpies are meant to be considered rather unlucky, i have one which keeps coming into my garden on it's own-never with it's partner, i feel rather uncomfortable each time this happens, i do say the old saying EVERY time about oh Mr magpie where's your wife (for luck). It's rather unusual to see these birds on their own isn't it? He is rather bonny and plump (obviously gets loads of nice food around here) hence the continual dropping in past to say hi, i just feel nervy when he does....anyone else feel like this?

Perhaps he would like to find himself a partner but none of the other birds want to pair up with him. He needs a wife (or a boyfriend) to make him feel less isolated and lonely this Christmas.
Maybe he is visiting you because he likes you and maybe you feed him.
Can you tell that I am bored? ;-)

Oh no this is certainly not the case, i love seeing him albeit he makes me nervy lol - i like seeing him, i just feel i am repeating the verse about his partner rather a lot. I wish for him to find a mate, and yes i do think he likes the food this is obvious with his wee paunch ha ha. He is cute, it's just very unusual to see one continually on its own i thought?
Last week there was a lone magpie on the branches of a Japanese maple in my garden. He seemed to be pecking like mad at the branches and when I went out to look one of his claws had got caught up in the branches. He was making a heck of a racket but I did'nt have a ladder ( my daughters had removed them for safety reasons ).
I managed to climb onto the wall but just as I got within reach he freed himself and flew away. I was so glad as I am scared to death of birds so I don't know what I would have done if I had o free him.
