Goldfish And The Toilet...

If I flush my goldfish down the toilet, will they survive?

They will definitely not survive as far as the sewage treatment plant. It would be an act of cruelty to flush them down the loo.

By the way you don't need to worry about feeding goldfish over a weekend. They would probably go a week with no problem and can last for weeks without food if they are somewhere cool.

Oh well they won't be suffering now, they'll be dead. You can't take them from a home environment and dump them in a pond at this time of year and expect them to be OK. And I thought they were sick? I hope it's not catching or they will have infected all the other fish. How can you pick sherr's answer as BA and not take her advice? Shaking my head in disbelief here.

You could take them to "Cash my Gold" but they'd probably want to melt them down.

I had two gold fish then one died, I didn't want to get another one to keep it company, a neighbour has a fish pond with other gold fish in so we put ours in with them (with neighbours permission) it is now as happy as larry, swimming around with all his mates. I go and visit it and say hello, when it hears my voice it comes to the surface.

ladybirder, gold fish are carp and cold water fish, they will be fine in cold conditions.

Puss. I am a great advocate for not keeping gold fish in bowls or ponds, they have the potential to grow up to an over 12 inches in length. But tonight those fish will be dead. The shock of the temperature change on already sick and possibly diseased fish would be too much for them. Not to mention the fact that they could pass on disease to the inhabitants of the pond.

They can live in cold water, but are not good with temperature change. I think a bowl in a heated house to a pond, may be too much for them:-(

Some people should never have animals but what I don`t understand is that those people always seem to have pets. I don`t know why.

I put my fish in the pond during the summer, I actually went today to see him and he is fine, gold fish usually grow to their environment depending on their breed (if breed is the right word). I have had gold fish that were only a couple of inches long and stayed that way all their lives.

I just hate the "we're bored" with em lets get rid of them attitude that some people have.

The fact that Sham's goldfish might survive being dumped in a pond is inconsequential (though not to the fish I imagine!) it's the way pets are considered disposable and a burden to be got rid of when they're past their novelty value that sickens me.

RIP fish - not only ill, but probably treatable, and now very likely dead in a pond from the shock of the temperature change in the water.
