Very Worried About My Dog

I went to bed about 10pm and woke up at 10.30 as I thought I could hear my dog being sick downstairs.

When I got downstairs he was lying on the sofa having what I can only describe as an epileptic fit. His body was limp but he was frothing at the mouth.

That was half an hour ago. Since then he's been pacing around downstairs in a daze, his back legs keep going from under him and its like he doesn't recognise me. He is panting and continually pacing around in a state of confusion.

He's 12 years old and never had a history of fitting. I'm sure if its simple eplilepsy its treatable via medication?

I am sad to hear of the outcome with your dog. My old cat had a few fits before he died and they terrified both of us. Like you I decided that he had suffered enough and there was no hope of him recovering.

My thoughts are with you at this very sad time. x
My heart goes out to you Booldawg, so sad and sorry to hear the turn of events.
You must of course do what is right for him and am sure he would thank you a thousand times if he could for giving him such a happy life and footballs to chew.
My thoughts are also with you during this awful time xx
I'm so sorry about this, I didn't post the other day because I didn't want to be the voice of doom, but this is almost exactly what happened with our beloved little dog a couple of years ago. It happened very suddenly, he was very very sick and then couldn't stand up. His back legs kept giving way and his eyes and head were twitching. He could only walk round and round in circles and it was very distressing for both us and him. We rang the vet, who told us to come up in 40 mins. Fortunately hubby was not working on that day, so we sat him on our knees and cuddled him and told him we loved him. When we got to the vet, she took one look at him and said he had had a serious stroke and because of his age (16) it was kindest to let him go. We stayed with him till the end, then brought him home and buried him in his favourite part of the garden. I'm boo hooing my head of as I'm typing this. My heart goes out to you xxxxxx
I'm so sorry Booldawg. He was obviously very loved. X
Sorry to hear your news. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. xx
Really sorry to hear about your dog. It's exactly what happened with mine a few years back, she went into a series of fits so I had to let her go. You did the right thing by letting him go peacefully and with dignity, hugs xxx
So sorry Booldawg, he is very clearly loved. Your post has reduced me to tears so I can only imagine how you and your family are feeling x
Read this about 5.00 pm tonight and I started to cry as my dog has a tumour and I know I will be going through what you have gone through. I hope I am brave when the time comes

Terrible news about Saxon. Make the most of your last night together. Tomorrow you will show just how much you do care for him. I wish you strength.xx
Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to read your news, have a lovely night of cuddles with Saxon, my thoughts will be with you all xx
Sorry to hear this, Booldawg.....it's never nice but, as with humans, focus on those good times you had together....
Omg, so so sorry for you, I know its only me writing to you, but i will be thinking of you, x x x
Thinking of you and your dear boy.

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle cannot be won
You will be sad I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
The time has come please let me go
Take me where my need they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see
I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you do for me
Although my tail it's last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved
Please do not grieve it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close we two these years
Don't let your heart hold back its tears

I hope you can take a little comfort from this poem, it helped me when we lost our lovely old cat Jess

Thanks all, he went very peacefully. The sun was shining on him through the window in the treatment room. He always liked the sun and would follow it around the back garden. He was more into sunbathing than walking.

I often read on here, on Facebook about peoples losses, relatives, pets etc and I always feel for them but this is my first real experience of true grief and will always read those postings with a different understanding.
Hugs and tears, Booldawg
This must be a difficult time for you, and i am so very sorry to hear this news. RIP poor doggy, its hard when you have had someone or a pet in your life for a long time, its so hard to let go. Your dog is at peace now, and not suffering. You take care also, the house must be so quite. xxx thinking of you.
