A Cautionary Tale
23 Answers
I have just been pottering about in the kitchen with the door open and Tilly was outside.. I heard her barking at the fence and went out to fetch her in, stopping for a moment to put mygarden shoes on.
When I went out, Tilly was hanging from a lower 'stub' a Hawthorne bush. The D ring on her collar had got caught and she was struggling, with her legs off the ground, to free herself. I managed to lift her off and she fell to the ground. She lay there for about 30 seconds, gasping, then got to her feet and shuffled off.
I have now taken her collar off. God, that has really shaken me.

However, its not always good to go into the garden to stop them barking(!) - last week I did that and came back in to find the grill on fire, took me ages to put it out as it spread to surrounding area and caused lots of smoke damage to my kitchen!
Lankeela, I am sorry to hear about your kitchen. That was a lucky escape!
I have had dogs for thirty five years and all of them have worn collars at all times, without any mishap. However, after today, I will never put a collar on another dog unless we are going out for a walk. I can't believe what happened.
Thanks to all who responded, for your kind words. I guess today was Tilly's unlucky and lucky day. Uuuuuugggghhhhh!
