Hi,

Would anyone have any suggestions on where or how I could I could find out the size and how much an old black and white American saddle I have is worth?

Sorry but I can't do links! - google 'old American saddles' and you'll find lots on there -and for sizing, google 'how to measure an American saddle' - very different to measuring an English one which is why I can't be more helpful but the pictures are probably clearer than text anyway. Would also suggest carefully looking over the saddle to fine who made it then google that. Any help?

an average size for Western saddle is 15 - 17 inches

See if there is a makers mark anywhere on the saddle if you find one post bacl with it. Western saddles can vary enormously from an old Mexican one at around £125 to sort after branded USA ones that can be up to £1000's

We have lots of saddles here on the place in western U.S. As mentioned, you now have instructions on measuring the size of the saddle seat. The back part is the cantle and usually the maker of the saddle will stamp the leather on the back of the cantle. Additionally, there may be a maker's stamp of the "fender" which is the bottom part that goes on the horse... the mark (if any) will be between the two parts of the fender.

Be sure to check the condition of the underside or padding, usually made of lambs wool... this is the part tht rides on the back of the horse and shouldn't be overly worn down to the letaher... todo so will soon make the horse's back sore...
