How can you tell how old a turtle is?

Cut it in half and count the rings.
WaldoMcFroog is joking - I think! - but there may be something in what he says... thin lines growing along the each of the scrute - the square parts of the shell - can sometimes indicate age. Otherwise, it's hard, especially once a turtle has reached maturity (at anything up to 25 years old!).
I was joking, but Mikewith's method is certainly true for tortoises, so may well work for turtles too!
