I'm almost certain you can no longer buy them legally as pets in the UK - if that's where you are. Importing conditions were deemed cruel, and stopped a few years ago.

Why not get a hamster or a bird, something that won't need attention during the day, but will be company for you when you are in.

You can get tortoises. They are captive bred, and very very expensive. You can download Care Sheets for them here.

I'd look into that first.
A pair of cockatiels in a large cage would be good. Leave the radio on for them if you're out and they will keep each other company !!!
get some goldfish more relaxing and less trouble remember you are working full time!

Tortoises are  very specialist pets. While they don't need attention like a dog or cat does, they do need lots of knowledgable care and I wouldn't get one unless you really do want one and are ready to take the trouble of caring for it properly.

It also depends why you want a pet. They don't interract with you in the same way that hampsters or birds will.

i was thinking about getting a toitoise last year but appently they are now illigal to buy and keep as pets. You also have to be prepared to die before it, as they live up to 100 years
tortoises are very expensive and hard 2 look after in some sences y not try  a rabbit hamster guinnie pig chinchilla ect as they are not very costly n are quite loving
