Hi. My dog had an anaesthetic last Monday and for a week now, he's been licking at the bare patch where they shaved him for the needle. I'm constantly trying to stop him but I wondered if this could cause harm. He's had this before and it's not bothered him. Is there something I can do to stop this or should I just leave him to it. I have put some Vaseline on but it doesn't stop him. Thank you.

If its just the needs puncture wound I doubt he will do much harm, its possibly just itching, the result of a little allergic reaction maybe, this would stop it if need be. https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=dog%20surgery%20collar

needs = needle
Get the cone on him, anything you put on he will lick at.

Thank you very much for your answers, food for thought
I agree with mm, a cool flannel (which will be soothing) and keep applying it until you can get one of those collars, but hopefully in the meantime he'll stop.
