Why do lambs gambol?
IE All lambs do it, so it must be genetic.
If so, what advantage does it give each new generation?

In line with modern inclusivity moves the National Farmers Union have introduced an opt-out scheme for lambs who choose to eschew the traditional behaviour and not be bound by what others see as the norm. They've called it Gambollers Anonymous.

Perhaps they are just happy ! They are not the only animals that do it.... baby goats to it, to say nothing of the puppies and kittens.
And children
I still gambol a bit, although only after 3 Martinis !

Its the olives that do it I think.
can't remember the last time i gamboled
Nothing nicer than spring arriving and seeing lambs gambolling, guess they're just happy.
like any gambollers, they end up fleeced.
They're optimistic, expecting to win big.
Guessing as they are prey animals it will give them an advantage in that they exercise joints and muscles and also co-ordination

Thank you for all your answers so far. I can't easily single out one of them as "the best". I like the answers referring to happiness and optimism, and the puns on gambling. I think that woofgang's post must be chosen as directly referring to the question posed.
Season's greeting to all.
