How To Stop Dog Getting Bullied
13 Answers
My daughter has a doodle and when they visit or I go to their house, the doodle goes for my dogs legs. At first we thought it was just play but now it's more like domination. When I look after her at my house without any of her family, the two dogs are perfectly fine. My shih tzu is a bit of a wimp but a lovely one

When the doodle comes to your house s/he is aware that it is now in your pack and is passive, i.e. has nothing it needs to protect.

there is no such thing as alpha dogs. Khandro I am really bored with saying this.
It sounds like your daughter's dog is stressed by having other dogs in here house which is her safe place. it depends how often you visit your daughter.... Easiest solution is to keep the dogs apart when you visit your daughter if you aren't there often. Otherwise there could be many reasons for the problem and I would suggest that you talk to a behaviourist and take their advice but NOT one that talks about alpha dogs and dominance!

I visit my daughter often as she lives close and her doodle stays overnight with me one night a week because my daughter works. How comes she does this in both houses when my daughter is there. It's not like she is fussing my dog and ignoring her own. We have even left them in her house alone when we have gone shopping and they seem fine. We will see what happens tomorrow Christmas Day when I visit
I perhaps should have said I assume your daughter is the alpha dog, this may not be the case, it is a big subject and it could be at your daughters house the doodle believes it is in charge
Regarding this as being "old hat" there is any amount of information on the subject online, this is one at random;

indeed it is a big subject..... but the "Alpha Wolf" is a myth, The "Alpha Dog" is myth and the silliest of all is the Alpha Human in the context of dog behaviour.

I'm a great believer in a lot of what is often called, "old hat".
Most people today don't even know how to bring up children - look around you! - and if they can't do that properly, what hope is there for their dogs?
you think 1991 is old hat!! Man has co-existed with dogs for a very long time;

Mongrel.doodle whatever. She is a dog. Yesterday went well. I did step in and stop her with my dog I have her for few hours today and they are fine. Maybe doodle just needs a to know they are equal in both houses. My daughter's children by the way are very well behaved and polite to everyone and each other
maggie; I did not in any way mean your daughter didn't know how to bring up her children. I was speaking of the many people of today who can't in general. Apologies if you thought otherwise.
I'm pleased to hear the dogs are getting on OK, it seems that they have established a hierarchy and now comfortable with one another.
