I always keep my bird feeders well topped up but this morning, I didn't see a single bird!
The last few days they were out in force, I just hope they survive. Its about -4c at the moment.

my birds are appearing between snow showers, feeding rapidly and leaving again. I have got plenty of twiggy shelter in my garden so they don't have to come far to the feeders. Its snowing heavily now.
I feel so very sorry for the birds right now, but I wade out in all weathers to keep their food topped up both ground and in the feeders. They seem to come all at once, have a feed and then vanish again to come back later. It's the night time they must suffer the most, poor loves.
Have abandoned bird baths..Keep freezing...now taking plastic basin from sink in and out...

Hi All, I made an interesting observation, before going out, a crow was on the conservatory roof and it appeared to be eating snow.

A robin was telling me, in its own way, the it was hungry by flying almost under my feet, when I returned later.
as the old song goes

he'll sit in the barn
and keep himself warm
by tucking his head under his wing
(poor thing)
I watched a blackbird eating snow this morning, also had 3 fieldfares in my crabapple this morning which is unusual as don't see them except in this really bad weather.
Our bolshie bluetit has been popping up to our feeder (7th floor balcony) Haven't seen the robin for a while but he is normally early so we might be missing him.
