I read that foxes are supposed to see well, but whenever I throw some food out for them (they sit there waiting for me to do it), they really do not seem to see it and just sniff around the grass continuously until their nose picks up the scent and then see it when it is right in front of their nose where it landed. Any thoughts. Please no lectures about humans feeding foxes, the question is about their eyesight/hunting/finding food. Thank you.
//Vertical pupils are typical for creatures that are active at night (nocturnal). Foxes see well at dim light. Besides good night eyesight, foxes have excellent sense of smell and hearing. They use these senses to detect the prey.//
They may well be sniffing to check it's all clear.
