anyone got any tips on how to attract birds to a bird table? I bought a nice one, filled a grill feeder type thing with peanuts, sunflower seeds, etc, also put some on the tray/floor thingy, but it's been days in my garden and still no birds.

Basically, in due time. They will never swarm to a brand new feeder, they know the ones in the area, and they will spy on yours until they trust it. It's normal.. Usually takes from weeks to months, but they will come don't worry.

where is it placed ? have it somewhere that is not easy for a cat to access ie..not against a fence or wall... perhaps put something on the ground around it for ground feeding birds the activity will attract smaller birds..

once they have found it they will return..mine do at set times with regularity !
Try putting the bird table near a small tree or bush.

Small birds like to "hide" in a tree or bush and then pop out to the bird table and then quickly pop back in to the tree or bush.

If the bird table is isolated in the middle of a lawn with nothing around it birds may be reluctant to feed from it.
I can only echo the good advice of others and say, give it time.

A good piece of advice, I got from ABERS on here was to re-hydrate meal worms by soaking them in water over night.

They'l come.
Note also that different birds like to feed in different ways.

Some (such as *** or sparrows) like to go in to a "cage" and peck at seed, others like to eat off a flat surface like a tray hanging from a tree or hook on a wall.

Others like to ground feed (like blackbirds or even robins).

So you need different types of feed devices for different types of birds.
ditto guilbert..what a posh name !...lol... wee birds hide in the nearby shrubs and pop in and oot !
I think you can guess my censored word above, they are small birds like blue xxxs or long tailed xxxs and so on.

I have two feeders. One with live/dried insects and the other one with mixed seeds. I get my seeds from a commercial seed suplyer who sells 'wild bird seed' cheaply. This is seed obtained by harvesting the seeds from weeds before ploughing. It is an extra income for the small farmers. some good pet shops sell it too, but not very cheap.
some time ago I too bought bird seed etc but not a bird nothing - so I took them away. Will try again as I like to see a bird hopping about.
when I am on - what should I get - the fat ball or the little long thing - which I had thought the birds had difficulty getting at.
