Is now 8 months old and a little devil!

Im aware that he's being 'just a pup' and therefore into EVERYTHING, but the thing is, I tell him off.....He 'shouts' back at me, which is both amusing and frustrating in equal measures.

How do I tell him off for playing with stuff he shouldn't when he just barks his head off at me for it?

Try not shouting but just call him to you, bribes may be needed initially. Trouble is with small dogs they give us visual puppy signals so we give them far more leeway. You might have to use a canine equivalent of a naughty step as in get in your bed.

He's looking rather boney; you feeding him right ?

;-)
When you say “playing with stuff he shouldn’t” are you leaving things around that he can get at, like shoes or slippers?

The simple answer is not to leave anything lying around.
Oh my he's beautiful. Not much help BOO, but I'd just be chuckling away if he barked at me when I was trying to tell him off. chrissa has a good point though.

Love your avatar.

Yes, it does sound a simple answer Chrissa- however one of the things he gets told off for is hanging off the cat's tail- and surprisingly she's not a fan of that!

And cheers HIA- I buy a purple poppy pin each year so I thought i'd represent it here.

And yes I have to admit, 99% of the time I have to stop myself giggling my head off at him when he barks at me. But the other 1% is when hes hanging off the cat's tail and she's growling her head off at him, I fell so sorry for her- he's a little devil!
You 'shouting' means little to him, you need to correct him how his mother would correct him. She would use a little nip or a paw to wack him away .You could try the same, nothing nasty of course, just a push away with the flat of your hand or a nip on the shoulder with a firm 'no'!

Tried that too, little git runs off, barking his head off, he thinks it's a game.

Pointy finger means nowt too- he bites it
I can't see the photo. :-(

You just have to keep saying 'No!' Boo and then give him a treat and a cuddle when he responds and stops doing whatever.

Is there a chance that Indi could hurt him? You would think that he would bring out her maternal side.

Did you do a course of puppy classes at the Vet's surgery?

I am sure that you know, but it might be funny now but it might be different when he grows up and is all huge and muscley. Indi will probably still be bigger than him.

He is actually quite cute, I have just been looking at a picture of a dog that is "Mum was a Jack Russel/chihuahua cross and dad was a Yorkie cross" it was really cute.

Question Author
To be honest, I hope she does Wolfy one day! Obviously not enough to injure but enough to make him think "blimey, that hurt, I better not do that again!"

We went to puppy classes yes, but that wasn't an issue at the time, and so that topic never came up.

He's a titch, slightly smaller than a jack russell (which he's half of) so he'll never be big and bulky, Indi will always tower over him.

I've taken to shutting him in another room for 5 minutes or so when he goes completely OTT with his shenanigans as I'm fully aware that my shouting really isn't achieving anything!

Not sure im into the tapping him route, as a) I'm a softy and b) I couldn't bloody catch him to do it anyway.
Thank you, Flonska. That works. :-)

He does look like a cheeky, little monkey, Boo. Perhaps he'll calm down eventually.
Leave him be... a guinea pig that barks is something to encourage.

LMAO Snaggles! That made me laugh!

the cat's tail wagging attracts the dog. The cat will attack & that will stop the dog. Or distract the dog with another toy. cute dog but its the terrier in him
He's a wee puppy enjoying life, he thinks he's the boss for now . :-)
This is how animals become uncontrollable. Yes he's a small extremely cute puppy who will turn into an adult dog who thinks he's the head of the pack. Dogs thrive on discipline, its part of their hardwired nature. He needs to know you are the boss, not someone who thinks he's cute and lets him rule the roost.
