Question For Cat Owners

Where does your cat sleep overnight? If that’s not in your bedroom, does your cat cry out and maybe scratch in the hope of sleeping with you...or quietly accept spending the night in its own room?

Wherever it likes. Sometimes on the bed, sometimes somewhere else in the house, sometimes it stays out all night.

I never put mine out at night. In the spring & summer, he sleeps in conservatory..In Winter, he sleeps in my son's bedroom, as he works nights. It's like musical beds!

1 at the end of the bed and the other on a bed in another room, but she gets on our bed early doors to wake us up - but I think they both wander about at certain times of the night. We can never shut the bedroom door as both scratch at it relentlessly in the night to make a point if they can't get in.

We have had cats as pets for 50+ years. None of them has ever been outside overnight. They have always slept in their beds in various utility rooms with a litter tray in one corner, just in case.

Yes to add I never never let my cats stay out at night. If one hasn't come in at bedtime I set my phone alarm for an hour every hour until they have re-appeared when I go down to check.

I haven't got a clue. Never in my bed though and very rarely in my room. He picks a spot, sleeps there for a couple of weeks, then changes spots. When my son went to uni he slept outside his door for weeks. The door is open because it's my sons room where the cat gets in and out from.

I recently went and stayed with my niece for a few days - the first night I shut the bedroom door and my niece's cat apparently spent the night miaowing outside the door. When my niece told me this the next day I said that I was happy to leave the door ajar which I did on the second night. Shortly after I got into bed, her cat came in, noted I was in bed, and left again. Such concern for my well-being was touching :-)

They used to sleep in the bedroom but I have now given them their own room and they happily go to bed in there now

Where they choose. Latest has decided on cardboard boxes (one in the kitchen, one in the living room).

Whereas Scuttle used to love her igloo so much that she used to go to bed early!

Frankie tells me when it is time for me to go to bed and then when I get comfortable, he lies on my hip whilst I scratch his back. He sometimes stays there and falls asleep (but usually, he toddles off to one of his other beds). His favourite bed in strategically chosen so that he can see what I am doing or if there is any indication that I may feed him when I go for a pee.

Lol I used to have a cat that would tell me it was time for bed 930 on the dot and she would scream until she got her way!!

It’s not so much getting their way, as a pathological hatred of Change. Charlie used to insist on me getting up at 07.00, even though he didn’t actually want anything.

He just wanted his ‘people’ in their proper places so he could get on with his day’s contemplation.

Chequers likes to spend at least part of each night snuggled under the duvet with me. The other three have all got their favourite sleeping positions around the house but I usually get woken up every hour or two by one of them wanting a bit of fuss or simply to sleep on my chest. (I've not had more than 2 hours continuous sleep for nearly 5 years now; I just accept that as part of living with cats).

At least I can usually get into bed though. I used to have a massive cat who'd often be taking up all of the space on the bed when I wanted to use it. I spent many, many nights sleeping on the floor because of that cat ;-)

One sleeps under the bed, one sleeps in an open door way, the other three it’s a toss up between my bed, the couch and the cat bed.

Not one of our three cats is even allowed upstairs, never mind sleep on our bed. Disgustingly unhygienic. Two of them sleep in their own beds in the downstairs whilst the third one insists on going out all night. She is a rescued feral and we do have warm sheds for her so she is not out in the cold, unless she wants to be. We have had cats for the last 50 years and none of them have ever been allowed upstairs. They know they are not allowed and flee if they are caught up there.
