What do you worm your dog with? Panacur a few weeks ago made ours sick, so we’ve just given him two Bob Martins tablets and he seems quite unsettled. Any recommendations? Thanks
We spoke to our vet last week when we were there about something else and he said any of the over the counter ones are fine, just follow the dose instructions for the weight of the dog, which we’ve done.
So when your vet gives the dog worming stuff, do any of your dogs have any side effects?
Don’t use bob martin please there has been too many horror stories!
Take pup to the vets tomorrow as he really shouldn’t have anymore at the moment then get the vet to recommend a tablet
Ratty, I thought that was just a flea treatment, didn’t realise it was a wormer too.
Rosie, I’ve given him the dose required, there’s no more to give him. What’s the problem with Bob Martins? Why is it sold if it’s so bad?
Another vote here for Advocate. But don't administer anything else on top of the two BM's until you've seen the vet as there might be danger of over-dosing.
I get a Milbemax tablet every three months from the vet for my cat and buy Advocate online, with a prescription from the vet, used every six weeks roughly, for fleas, which is a small vial squeezed between the shoulder blades. Not sure what is best for dogs but have also heard horror stories about Bob Martins. Is the dog OK now ethandron? Best not to give him anything else for a few weeks I would think.
I’ll not be giving him anything else for three months ladybirder, no chance of overdosing. I’ll use advocate next time.
What does the Bob Martins do to the dog which is harmful? Do I need to watch out for something? He’s prowled around all evening, not distressed just very restless, and given that he usually crashes out on the sofa next to me from about 7pm it’s a bit concerning.
He’s just been out for a wee and seems to have settled down now.
I'm not sure it does anything harmful eth, I've never used it. My understanding is that it just doesn't work. As soon as it's safe Advocate will do the job, nobles and no worms. I hope he stays settled now and has a good night's sleep. It's so lovely to see our dogs peaceful, safe and warm. x
It says the usual thing about maybe vomiting, maybe diarrhoea, but also mentions anorexia (?) and hyperactivity! The twice we’ve used Panacur it’s made him vomit which is why we asked the vet and then bought Bob Martins. It’s a blooming minefield..
Indeed ladybirder, he’s snoring now with his little bum pressed agains my leg, I can feel him twitching, so hopefully whatever it was has passed.
Thank you all so much for your advice, very much appreciated x
