Cat Collar

Please, can anyone recommend a good quick release cat collar?
I got 2 rescued cats about 4 months ago and the tom is a killer. A mouse, a blackbird and this morning a squirrel. Just half an hour after his breakfast.
Definitely need to try and stop this.

If it's quick release won't he just get out of it ?

Apparently it needs to be quick release incase he gets caught on a branch or something. Don't want to hurt him just get a suitable collar with bell so they know he is there.

Has the Tom been neutered? Go to a pet supply and test the collars

I advise a multi pack as your cats will loose them easily, i think.

When buying a cat collar, i always go for "Quick Release" and "reflective". Of course it needs a cute little bell as well.

They look good, spath. Probably best to get a mutli pack as I expect he will get them off somehow.
Yes, calmck he is neutered. I believe all rescue centres neuter animals before they are rehomed anyway. The little female I got at the same time rarely leaves the house and garden.

Ah, a cat after my own heart. Following his instincts as a cunning hunter. Collar my help some of his prey escape but cats are very patient and usually win in the end.

Maggie, we are losing our precious songbirds so anything we can do to protect them from any predator should be welcomed. If that was a female blackbird that was killed this morning then babies could now be starving in their nest. Spath, never mind the "little" bell, cat needs the loudest bell Gill can get.
Gill can I beg you to not let him out early on these summer mornings when the fledglings are still not street-wise and finding their way about. Keep him in until later when they have fed and had their fill, if you can. Thank you.

Ladybirder I agree with you entirely. I have never had a cat that I know hunts before. Have had dogs for years but since being widowed and on crutches cannot cope with one now. House was very empty and the cats are good company.
I keep them in at night from about 8 until morning then they can go out at will through the cat flap.
It was a male blackbird about a month ago. Squirrel this am.
I hate killing. I even rescue worms off the pavement so am finding this upsetting. Will get collar tomorrow.

Gill, how funny, you must a long lost sister. I move worms from footpaths and pavements and put them on grass LOL.

Males can also have compassion for animals. I doubt it’s a woman thing

LB, it's not a woman thing. My husband does that sort of thing. When he's driving if he can avoid a moth that's flying at the windscreen, he will.

Gill, bell on collar is the best you can do.

At the end of the day nature will be nature.

Surprisingly, cats have little impact on bird population compared to factors such as, netting hedges, artificial gardens from decking to astro and human development like towns and cities.

A few years ago we had a stray crawl into the kitchen. Bedraggled, starving, broken tail, pellet in his ear. Worst of all was the collar that had eaten into his neck. It must have been put on when he was a young cat and as he grew it tightened on his neck. He could barely breathe. Thankfully the vet was able to sort his wounds out and Willy lived with us and our two female cats for three happy years. I have never put a collar on any of our cats.

I will try a collar but one that will release easily if it gets caught anywhere.
He is sitting here now looking very angelic. Very loving cat.
