My 9 year old yorkie started coughing last night and has produced white foam several times I wondered has anyone any idea? Could it be the dry air from central heating?

As a dog owner for nearly all my life I can reassure you that when dogs cough they usually produce this white foam. It could be that your yorkie had something irritating his throat. If it continues I would get him/her checked over by the vet.

in a senior citizen like your chap, it can be a first symptom of heart failure, which is very easily treatable and improves the dog's quality of life, mught be worth a check at the vets
Has he been eating grass? My cat throws up after eating grass and there is sometimes white foam
My Border Collie coughs very regularly and also drinks alot of water (have you noticed this too?).We discovered a couple of months ago that she has a heart murmur which is very common apparently but is not treatable in her case as she is 17.Good luck...hope it's just a tickle in the throat and nothing else x
keep an eye on the coughing there is a lot of kennel cough around at the moment!
