I remember conducting a footpath-user survey on the edge of Canterbury some years back. The survey point was right next to a river, where a pair of kingfishers were present, diving in and out of the water, all day long, just a few metres away from us. It certainly made the job of standing there for 12 hours a lot more pleasant than it might otherwise have been!
