Hi

My 9 mth old kitten recently passed away, having been involved in a car accident. I would like to adopt 2 kittens in the future and just wondered if i would be able to use the scratching post and bed that my 9 mth old kitten used, or would it be a better idea to buy all new?

Thanks

Emma

Hi Emma,

I also lost a cat a few years ago in a road accident. 2 years ago I decided to get another cat, and my cat uses my previous cat's scratching post - so you can use it if you aren't able to buy a new one for whatever reason.

I have since now bought a new one because it was 5 years old and had seen better days !

Regarding the bed - none of my cats have had 'cat beds' - usually they have a blanket. I would say to buy a new cat bed, or at least if you are able to wash it to get rid of the previous cat's scent - might be a good idea ! Only you can make that decision !

Hope that helps.

You should wash the bed and then it will be fine and the scratching post will be fine to use aswell. I wouldn't buy new it would be a waste of money!

The existing scratching post should be fine, but like the previous correspondents suggest, I would wash the cat bed or blankets to get rid of any residual smells which cats' noses are very adept at picking up. Good luck with your new pets.
