You wont need to visit the vet if it is a tick. First of all DO NOT PULL OUT. All you need to do is put a blob of vaseline on the end of the tick (i.e the opposite end to the head which is in your dogs skin). Ticks breath thru their bums and this will suffocate it. It will die and fall off eventually.
Never pull a tick out as this will leave the head in the dog and it will get infected and you will then possibly need to seek vets help then.
Good Luck!
If you are reasonably dexterous and can get through the fur, you can take hold of the tick close to the skin and unscrew it. Keep slight tension on, don't squeeze the body and rtate the tick counter clockwise. it will come out whole and alive Honest!!
I have a weimaraner and despite treatment, she still picks up the odd one and this method works every time. It is also the method used locally in our minor injuries units to remove them from people
then pop to the vet when it is open and get some frontline!!
