Living at the coast here people just refer to them as "seagulls" though there are several types of gull. They are messy pests and various ways have been tried to get rid of them but without success. I can't forgive the one which stole my fish supper while sitting at the harbour!

A lot of Humans are vicious and a crowd places out making more mess than gulls. Why can't we cull them?
There ar six types of gull in the UK. And others that visit They don't bother me unless they poo on my head!

There was a big hoo ha last year when one town put nets over their buildings to prevent them roosting and nesting - what makes humans think they are more entitled to live than other creatures?

There was a big hoo haa when businesses and councils used anti-homeless measures to prevent people dossing down in doorways and on public benches, too. Sometimes we treat people like other creatures

The damage guano causes to buildings is worrying and the cost of cleaning it up can be many thousands of pounds. It is such a problem that Scarborough council will pay a grant of 50% (up to £2k) to homeowners to install anti-gull measures.
It is heartbreaking to see the damage caused to great buildings of historical and architectural significance as well as the very real health hazard, especially to the people who have to clean it up. It's not just gulls, kittiwakes and pigeons compound the problem.

When the menace start paying rent they might have more right to crap all over everything or generally leave a midden in their wake.

Until then apply extreme measures to manage them.
