Does anyone know of any good websites where genuine people sell puppies/dogs? I've been on Epupz but would like to search more, especially around the London area. Many thanks

Although it is not a site that 'sells' dogs or puppies, www.champdogs.co.uk is used by breeders whose details are listed by breed. You can then contact a breeder in your area to find out about availability of puppies. I would steer clear of sites offering puppies for sale, it is better to decide on what breed you want, then contact several breeders and find out about the breed, rather than just answer an ad, pay your dosh and hey presto instant puppy. Please give it a lot of thought, as to which breed would suit your lifestyle, bank balance, family, etc. This is a lifelong commitment and you all need to be happy with your choice.

Crufts is on at NEC in March, and they have a section called Discover Dogs, where the majority of breeds are represented, and enthusiasts for those breeds will be willing to discuss them with you, and tell you the ups and downs of their particular breed and you can meet actual dogs and decide if they would be for you.

thanks very much for your answer.

I have a dog already and know all about keeping dogs and what breed I want and have never had a problem with buying dogs through adds so am looking for more places to find them. I'm not after a kennel registered dog and prefer mongrels as they're not inbred and don't suffer as many immune system defects as proper pedigree dogs.

if you want a mixed breed, why don't you try your local animal shelter?

Whether they suffer defects is not because of pedigree or inbreeding - two parents who are total outcrosses can produce a puppy with defects if they carry the defective genes.

Id agree with Woofgang.

Please dont encourage BYBs (Back Yard Breeders) by paying them loadsamoney for a pup. Theres already more than enough unwanted pups as well as young and old dogs in animal shelters.

Have you tried your local vets or RSPCA? They'll be able to direct you. The Dogs Trust is also a good place to find dogs which for various reasons need a home.

Please dont buy via a website or a pet shop.
The latest trend is to mate two different breeds and call them 'designer dogs' and charge a fortune for the puppies. They are still crossbreeds and anyone who pays good money for them deserves to be ripped off.
