Gutfish - do nothing if thats what suits you. The simple fact that people can be bothered to take action - even if it is in your opinion useless (which you are democratically entitled to believe, and so be it) - does apply pressure. This is an issue about governance. The Canadain Gov. have to sort out he action of the few disreputable people involved in the cull - this is not a petition to say 'save the little seals' as there is ample argument that the overpopulation can lead to its own problems, but I would ask you to read the facts regarding the process considering the financial gains made by the cull.
The protest is against the cruelty and the lack of standards of welfare in the cull. Please, read the info at : http://www.boycott-canada.com/info/index.htm Read the statistics, look at the pictures, read the comments by a Gov Minister:
"Mr. Speaker, I would like to see the 6 million seals, or whatever number is out there, killed and sold, or destroyed and burned. I do not care what happens to them... the more they kill the better I will love it."
John Efford, Canadian Minister of Natural Resources
The demand for action is growing including the demand to boycott Canadian goods and tourism which has a far greater revenue than the value of the seal products from the cull.
My reason to post the petition link is on the grounds of a feeling of revulsion at the documented and reported skinning of live seals and the lack of other action I can take as someone who, in a simple phrase wants to 'give a damn' and not sit back and think 'Oh well I can't do anything so what is the point? Let them suffer'
