Vacuum cleaner which removes cat hair

Can anyone recommend an effective and reliable vacuum cleaner which successfully removes cat hair and which doesn't cost hundreds of pounds? I really need one but can't afford the ones which cost 200-300 pounds.

Only one I can recommend is the Dyson Animal - but it does cost - although prices are coming down all the time and you could always try e-bay for a second hand one?

I have 2 cats and got mine from Argos - it was less than �50 I think and it can do carpet or hard floors and even has a nozzle to do sofas etc!!! It's an Electrolux Z7290- its just a pull around one but does the trick. I think they still sell it....

Try the Pet Hair and Lint Remover from Betterware, code 19725, �3.99 - or you can buy them with refills from your local pet shops.

Buy a rubber glove and rub over the hairs with your normal hoover behind the 'fluff' for the easiest way. Not for floors perhaps, but best for furniture.

Nightmare!! My cats hair takes over my carpets in the night whilst I am asleep! I don't know why I bother hoovering at all! In hindsight I should never have bought a white longhaired cat when I have navy carpets...

I had a Panasonic upright that did the job pretty effectively, It cost about �70, but I have since thieved my boyfriends Dyson (just a normal one) and its totally eradicated all traces of hair. My carpets look great, so although the Panasonic looked like it was doing the job I can really notice the difference with this. Your best bet is just to make sure it has a roller brush on the underneath as it grabs the hairs as well as sucking them up.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I will have to do some searching around. The rubber glove idea certainly works for the furniture, I do that at the moment but would rather not have to go round the whole house on my hands and knees doing all the carpet like that too! Thanks again.

And just something I found - if you have trainers on while you hoover and 'scuff' the pile of the carpet, you'll be disgusted/amazed at the amount of extra hair you lift that he vacuuming leaves behind - just follow with the hoover - its the same action as the glove idea, but on the floor...

No vacuum cleaner I've ever tried got rid of the cat hair on my carpet.
(Got one long haired and one short haired)

I usually go over the carpet with a wet sponge every now and then.
