You tan through your body's response to UV light. Most glass filters out UV so the answer is no you can't.

So why don't plants lose their chlorophyll in greenhouses, as they do when covered? or am I on a wrong horse?

xyzzyplugh, plants use a different part of the electromagnetic spectrum to photosynthesize with: a part which isn't absorbed by glass. So climb down from that horse and walk away, there's nothing to see.
