Hi, I have just noticed that my cat has a swollen face on one side and this swelling goes up to the eye. The eye is weeping slightly. She is eating fine and this came up very suddenly, so I suspect it is an infected cat scratch. Could it be anything more serious? I will take her to the vets if it is no better by tomorrow. but would appreciate some advice in the meantime.
Cheers

Could it be a bee or wasp sting?

glad you're taking her to the vet as soon as you can though, hope she's better soon :-)
There are masses of horsefly 's about this year affecting both human and animals (see posts below).

Could be a horsefly bite, see how it is in the morning, before you take her to vets
Sounds like it could be an abcess, these are really common in cats and if it is really that swollen it is probably from a bite or scratch.
There is the possibility of course that it could be an insect bite or maybe even a grass seed that has got in the eye and gone travelling (which they do) and got infected. Hope all goes well at the vets tomorrow
my first thought would be a cat fight wound. Best to take her to vet to be safe as they can get pretty nasty. After being bitten by my own cat I got a lecture from my GP on cat bites - it is like injecting poison into your system.

Hope she is okay, keep us updated.
Could be an abcessed tooth- hopefully not because those are exspensive to fix. Probably an infected laceration those are usually not too difficult to deal with. Some anitfungal and antibacterial soap and warm water apply with a soft rag 5 times a day for 7 days and get some antibiotics from the vet if that is what it is and your cat should be back to perfect health in 10 days

Many thanks for all the responses, she still has the swollen face but has just tucked into some food so seems okay in that respect. I will let everyone know the outcome.
Many thanks

Just wondering how your cat is sue?

hi everyone, once again many thanks for the answers and the concern! I took Bandit to the vets yesterday and he confirmed it probably was a cat scratch or bite that has got infected. He has given her antibiotics for 5 days and told me to bring her back if it does not clear as another possibility could be teeth problems. At the moment she is lying in the back garden enjoying the sunshine and the swelling is going down slightly. Oh yes the vet advised that with abssess like this, they swell up, burst, drain and then swell up again, so it is normally best to get the animal to the vets for antibiotics. Once again many thanks.

Ahhhh, great, glad to hear it. Thanks for letting us know :-)
I just registered with AnserBank because of the question you posted about your cat (the swelling on it's face. ) My cat just came home with exactly the same symtoms.

Thanks for posting the update, it helped me to understand what I can expect from the vet visit tomorrow and what the outcome of my visit will be.

Did the vet drain your cat's abscess or did he just give you anitbiotics?
