i have an 11 week old bundle of fluff called Merry who is a West Highland terrier and what a terror she is - I keep putting her outside at regular intervals and immediatley after her meals, last thing at night, first thing in the morning etc etc but she will not perfom out there no matter how long i leave her out but without fail everytime she comes in she does it on the lounge carpet. Lovely. Even tried taking her out, bringing her in and then straight back out. It won't work. I have removed her deposits and out them outside but she doesn't get the message. short of putting nappies or her, what can i do???

They do not become housetrained overnight, it can be a long job. You must stay out with her until she goes, then praise, praise, praise. Ignore any accidents indoors. Restrict her to an area such as the kitchen whilst she is eating and after playing, so she cannot do anything on the lounge carpet. She will soon learn what is required, but remember what a baby she is.
Thanks, i don't expect her never to have accidents and they don't matter, but i am worried about her thinking she is doing right by coming back inside to go, i don't want her to become confused or be getting the wrong messages from me or having to unlearn behaviours she has learnt. I do stay out with her. Last night we were out for 55 minutes after her supper and she didn't do a thing. When we came back in she pooped. She will sometimes do a wee outside and yes i do praise her loads and loads
