If you can find the gap where they are getting in under the floorboards or out into your kitchen, then you could put down ant bait which they will carry back to the nest. We had this problem a couple of years ago, the whole kitchen floor was black one morning... horrible We called in a service called Terminix from Yellow pages. The guy came about two hours later, sprayed the floor edges and we had to keep the dog out of the kitchen overnight but that dealt with it completely. It cost us about 40 quid but that also gave us a years insurance against ants and about 40 other kinds of household vermin, so when a rat took up residence in the garage (don't ask...) they came back and dealt with that free of further charge
