Have just made the hardest decision of my life, or what feels like it.

Tonight i have phoned up, and started the process of rehoming my dog.

I have luckily found a lovely women who lives a few roads from me who has phoned me this evening about it,

Its just so difficult. i know its what is right for my boy, but at the same time i love him to absolute pieces.

Has any one else had to rehome there dog for reasons?

You will not have let him down, you will have done the right thing by him. It would have been letting him down, to make him continue to live an isolated life without company while he is out in the garden and you are out at work.

I hope anyone else reading this who is planning on getting a dog of any sort will learn from it, and do all they can to find out about the requirements of dogs in general and the breed they are interested in in particular, before they take the plunge. Just recently we have had several cases on here of people getting dogs that are not suitable for their lifestyle or that they have had to rehome because they did not know what they were taking on or how to cope with them. In the end it is the dogs who suffer the most.
Please, Please as you were advised in your last question get in touch with Sammy rescue!

DO NOT try and rehome him yourself, especially to someone who you are chasing round their car because they have a sammy sticker in the window!

Please read this question http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Animals-and-Nat ure/Question372948.html

You have no idea what these people will do with your dog once you hand him over to them.

Sammy rescue know all about the breed and will rehome him with someone who really wants a Sammy, not someone who has not even wanted a dog.

I cannot believe you will hand your dog over to someone who just has a sticker of a sammy in their car window !!! Do you really care for your dog at all? What are you going to do if you see them in the street a few weeks later kicking hell out of the dog? Or like in the above question they put him to sleep within ten hours of getting him? Once you have handed him over you have no rights.

I think you will find the women we went to find is part of the Samoyed rescue, we were not going to hand him over to any one, thanks for the assumption! We went to find her as having spoken to her when we saw her when she was walking her Samoyed when they were younger, and she had said if we did have any problems, to get in touch, so we did!
We had to drive round and look for the van because i hadnt got her address before!
She then gave me the number of the main person in our area for Samoyed rescue who i called last night!

Please get your facts straight before throwing assumptions and complete rubbish in my direction.
If you are missing doggy company, could you walk dogs for a rescue centre or local pensioners?
Enjoy your kittens, our family has a rash of black cats at the moment, I was given one who adopted a friend, My daughter's mother-in-law adopted a feral litter, and the female had three kittens before they could get her to the vet, so both my daughters have kittens now (the 2 living together have already been 'done', the other tom goes next week)

I do enjoy my kittens very much!
They are all absolutely beutiful, the 5 week old ones now are terrors who love chewing fingers and running up legs!
But they all soon have to go to new homes.
We have 6 of our own cats, aged between 6 months & 3 years, so keeping any more, although I would love to, is not an option!

As for the walking dogs for people or a charity, that is a very good idea and something i will look into :)

Thank you!
I sympathise with you. Our daughter persuaded us to let her have a border collie puppy. The 'puppy' is now 2 years old, daughter lives with her boyfriend and can't have the dog, we work full-time and haven't the time she needs us to spend with her so we have been left with the task of rehoming the most affectionate, cuddly, loving dog I've ever met and I'm sure nobody could love or care for her as much as us. I am unsure where to advertise so as to attract the right sort of owner. Any suggestions gratefully received!!
There are many Border Collie rescue societies. Just google and you will come up with several. As with the Samoyeds, they are a specialist breed and should not be 'sold' to someone who just answers an advert.

Whatever happened to the saying a dog is for life?
please dont get another dog, if it doesnt work and its already happened twice you are going to go though the whole guilt / heartbreak process again.
Break the chain and stick to your cats.
Way back, when I was at college, friends of mine put a card in the campus shop
"Dog starved Freshers offer to walk dogs"
It got them into the local paper, and attracted imitators - "man starved freshers", but did the trick and they made friends among the staff and their dogs.
Nine months ago I had to have my 14 year old dog put to sleep. She had been such a loyal loveable friend and I missed her so much. But I made the decision not to have another dog as I told myself that it may out live me. That was until my daughter needed to rehome a very energetic puppy that she could not control it's behaviour towards her three young children. So I now have a nine month old who most of the time is very good, but it is not an ideal situation. He has all the energy that I am lacking in my old age and if I could have forseen the future, I would not have had him. I love him to bit's and I will try my hardest to give him all the excitement and stimulation he needs, but I know it will be difficult.
Please think hard about having another dog, but more important, be sure that the dog you have is going to a good home and not to labratory.
As an ex dog trainer with the army the Main comment I would make is, do what feels right for you and the dogs best interest, I would however be happier if the dog was located well away from your home as I am convinced that it will be aware of the lack of distance from its own current domain. Good Luck
