where do ducks drink water from?

(and seaguls, swans etc) do they drink water from the sea and the rivers? my husband says the sea is too salty for them so they drink from puddles, but i said what about in summer when there are no puddles?? he's always winding my up lol. so really... where do they drink from?

They will drink anywhere from rivers to puddles!!!
I live by an estuary which is salt water, and the swans drink from a stream that feeds into it. Some seabirds must be able to drink salt water though - a mystery.
OK I looked it up because it was bugging me too, ha ha, and it turns out that seabirds can drink salt water. They have special glands by their eyes that removes the salt from of their bloodstream and lets it out it through their nostrils.

Hi, all I know is that sea animals, such as dolphins ingest all of the fresh water that they need from their food, so I would imagine that many seabirds etc do the same. So I suppose that part of the answer is that they don't 'drink' as such! Freshwater birds would I imagine just drink from rivers, streams etc. As for Mr Hotpink....he is unfortunately a male of the species....don't think I spelt that right!!!! and as such will always be a wind up!!!!! ;o]...they drink from pubs!!!
